Hi, I'm Katy.
I fundamentally believe that life is nothing more than a collection of stories. Elevating one's voice to share these stories is where communication begins.
« I'm totally obsessed with the latest addition to my portfolio!
I was tasked to create a "bold" trailer for a program, institute and cause I believe in. Without many guidelines, I developed this short video representing my creative style as well as the Rural Futures Institute's brand and identity.
I believe that rural development is a social justice issue that needs to be addressed, funded and championed.

Long Story Long:
As I continue through my senior year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I try to partake in all of the opportunities to develop my multimedia communications experience. I'm always trying to bring 100% to the work that I do as a communicator by indulging in creative adventures and testing new technologies and programs.
I have been interning at the Rural Futures Institute in Lincoln, Nebraska since August 2017. As a storytelling intern and now a senior communications intern, I have gained useful experience working for this non-profit by creating digital content, writing press releases, creating and executing videos, handling social media scheduling, researching communications best practices and working on a team of strategic communicators.
I am the production specialist of Rural Futures with Dr. Connie, a podcast from the Rural Futures Institute. I perform all production and post-production technical duties involved with creating the podcast, including capture, sound engineering and editing.
I recently participated in a very special opportunity when I was a digital content intern for the National FFA Organization at the 90th Annual FFA National Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana. I worked on a great team to create, develop, produce and share digital content and videos via the National FFA channels.
In 2017, I completed a summer internship in graphic design and marketing at Southeast Service Cooperative in Rochester, Minnesota, where I created, developed and executed marketing strategies for professional development to better serve the members in the cooperative.
I previously worked as a media production assistant for IANR Media in Lincoln, Nebraska, where I created, filmed, recorded, wrote and edited multimedia content with a focus on agriculture, environmental sciences and natural resources for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, working in close association with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Nebraska Extension and Nebraska PBS.
I have gotten very impactful opportunities to create some projects for Streaming Science, an undergraduate student-driven project-based learning science literacy program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln whose mission is to introduce public audiences, especially middle and high school students and teachers, to real-world scientists and critical agricultural and environmental research through multiple interactive communication platforms.
My involvement at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln also includes: Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, Collegiate Farm Bureau, The Creative Commons, National Residence Hall Honorary ("Of the Month" Recognition Chair 2016), Residence Hall Association (SQC Secretary 2015-2016, Senator 2016) and Pi Alpha Chi-Alpha Chapter (LDCCW Liaison 2016, Public Relations and Technology Chair 2017-2018, Vice President of Records 2018). I am also a student member of the Minnesota Lamb and Wool Producers Association and the National Association of Farm Broadcasting.
I have always been dubbed a "dreamer" or "big thinker" since I was younger because I saw myself impacting the world in a big way when I grew up. Since I am in my twenties now, I think I can start to consider myself that "grown up" that my childhood self expected such big things from. I am always looking for ways to help our communities move forward, especially through service. My service experience in recent years spans from coordinating Facebook marketing for Husker Food Connection and creating multimedia and written content for the Water for Food Institute to being the mascot at the Lincoln Children's Museum and even raising money to sponsor my head shaving for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
My specialties revolve around multimedia platforms and include audio and video production and editing. My passions lie in visual storytelling, conservation, sustainability, equality, inclusion, youth development and female empowerment.
My Gallup Strengths are Developer, Strategic, Intellection, Empathy and Includer.
